Singapore at 100: How Young Singaporeans Envision the Future

As Singapore looks ahead to its 100th year in 2065, a recent survey offers an interesting glimpse into how younger generations envision the country's future.

Reported by The Straits Times, the survey found that young Singaporeans and permanent residents continue to have strong confidence in Singapore, while also placing greater emphasis on quality of life, fairness and work-life balance.

A Future Built on Stability and Opportunity

The survey found that 95% of respondents said they were proud to be Singaporean, while 68% remained optimistic about building their future in Singapore.

Safety and stability also remain important. Many respondents hope Singapore can continue to be a safe and resilient country while providing fair opportunities for people from different backgrounds.

This reflects some of the qualities that have long contributed to Singapore's position as a leading business and lifestyle hub in Asia.

The Singapore Dream Is Evolving

One of the most interesting findings is how the definition of success is changing.

For younger generations, success is increasingly about more than career progression or financial security. Work-life balance and mental well-being were among the most important areas respondents wanted to see improved by 2065, followed by affordability and greater equality of opportunity.

This suggests that the future “Singapore Dream” may be less about achieving success at all costs and more about building a stable, meaningful and fulfilling life.

Why This Matters for Those Considering Singapore

Singapore's appeal has traditionally been linked to its strong economy, business-friendly environment, infrastructure and regional connectivity.

However, for business owners, professionals and families considering Singapore as a long-term destination, other factors can be equally important — including safety, stability, education, quality of life and future opportunities.

As Singapore moves towards 2065, these factors may become increasingly important in defining what makes the country attractive not only as a place to do business, but also as a place to build a future.

Looking Ahead

The aspirations of younger generations provide an interesting perspective on Singapore's next chapter. They want to preserve the country's strengths while creating a society that offers greater balance, inclusiveness and quality of life.

For anyone considering Singapore for their next chapter, the country's future may therefore be about more than economic growth. It may increasingly be about creating a better quality of life alongside opportunity and stability.
